Excavation in Chimacum, Port Hadlock & Irondale

Eaglemount Excavation, LLC is based in Chimacum, WA, so Chimacum, Port Hadlock and Irondale are less a service area than the neighborhood. Dusty Larson lives and works here, and most of the valley farms, horse properties and Tri-Area lots we grade, drain and trench are a few minutes from the shop. That is good news for small jobs: a driveway that needs a fresh crown, a line of post holes for a fence, or an arena that has gone soft on one end.

What we do in Chimacum, Port Hadlock and Irondale

Farm and horse property work is a big share of it: arena leveling, driveway grading and building pad prep on Center Road and West Valley Road acreage, plus post holes and land clearing where a pasture is going back into use. In Port Hadlock and Irondale the calls are more often about water: French drains and yard drainage for lots that sit on hardpan, and utility trenches for water lines, power and sewer connections as the county’s Tri-Area sewer reaches more streets [VERIFY: Port Hadlock sewer phase and whether Eaglemount does hookups]. Chimacum and Port Hadlock ground, permits and access

The Chimacum valley is a flat floodplain along Chimacum Creek. The soil is deep, which is why it farms well, but it holds water from October through March, so a barn pad, an arena or a driveway across the valley floor needs a raised base and a ditch on the uphill side or it turns to soup by January. Climb onto the benches around Port Hadlock and Irondale and the ground changes to glacial till and hardpan with clay pockets. That layer sheds water onto whatever sits below it, and it is stubborn to dig.

Everything here is unincorporated Jefferson County. Land-use and grading permits go through Jefferson County Department of Community Development, septic through Jefferson County Environmental Health, and Chimacum Creek, its side channels and the valley wetlands fall under the Critical Areas Ordinance, JCC 18.22. Jefferson County PUD supplies water and power to most of the area, and we call 811 before any trench.

Access is rarely a problem. Center Road, Rhody Drive, Chimacum Road and Beaver Valley Road are wide county roads, and farm properties have room to turn a trailer. The exceptions are the small platted lots in old Irondale and Lower Hadlock, where the house, the septic tank and the neighbor’s fence can all be within a few feet of the trench line.

Getting there from Chimacum

We are already here. From the shop it is a few minutes to anything on Center Road or Chimacum Road, about 10 minutes to Port Hadlock and Irondale by Rhody Drive or Chimacum Road, and about the same to the Oak Bay Road lots below Hadlock [VERIFY: travel time]. That short run is why we can fit small Tri-Area jobs between bigger ones and swing back to check a drain after the first real storm.
