Eaglemount Excavation, LLC is based in Chimacum, in Jefferson County, and Sequim is the far end of where we go: about 45 minutes west by SR 20 and US 101 [VERIFY: travel time]. What we do in Sequim

Sequim is horse country, so arena leveling, driveway grading and building pad prep top the list. Utility trenches for water lines, power and septic connections dig easier in Sequim’s outwash gravel than in Chimacum clay. Drainage still matters on the lower Dungeness lots and anywhere an old irrigation ditch was filled in and now sends water where it should not go. Sequim ground, permits and access

Sequim sits in the Olympic rain shadow, and it shows in the ground. The Sequim prairie and the Dungeness valley are glacial outwash: sand, gravel and river cobbles that drain fast, unlike the glacial till, hardpan and clay that hold water on the Jefferson County side of Discovery Bay. Trenches stay dry, grading goes quickly and a driveway base compacts well. The catches are the old irrigation ditches that cross the prairie, some still carrying water and some filled in decades ago, and the cobbles and high water table close to the Dungeness River. Toward Bell Hill and Lost Mountain the ground climbs and the till comes back.

Permits are the big difference from home. Sequim is in Clallam County, so land-use, grading and building permits go through Clallam County Department of Community Development, or the City of Sequim inside city limits, and septic through Clallam County Environmental Health. Clallam has its own critical areas and clearing rules, and irrigation district ditches carry their own easements, so we check what applies before the machine goes on the trailer [VERIFY: Clallam County permit experience]. Access is the easiest of any town we serve. Old Olympic Highway, Sequim-Dungeness Way, Woodcock Road and Kitchen-Dick Road are flat, and prairie lots have room to stage material and turn a trailer.

Getting there from Chimacum

From the shop we take SR 20 west along Discovery Bay, join US 101 at the head of the bay, and follow 101 past Gardiner and Blyn and along Sequim Bay into Sequim.
